About The Herbal Healing Hut
The Herbal Healing Hut was founded by Regina “Mama Ravin” Lawson, a respected elder in the community, in 1997. In the THHH we study, advocate, and preserve the herbal medicinal and dietary traditions of our Aboriginal ancestors. We carry this out in two programs: The Herbal Walk & Talk and the Chat & Chew Citchen cooking classes. The Herbal Walk & Talk, in particular, is our most popular program in which we study and identify plants/herbs and discuss the medicinal properties as well as survival uses. Afterwards we "chat & chew" over a vegan meal prepared by the elder. Dates and locations vary. The Herbal Healing Hut over the years has garnered the support of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Sierra Club, Detroit Outdoors, and others.
The Herbal Healing Hut is currently accepting donations to help cover the cost of materials for our herbal healing programs. This includes, but is not limited to, medicine-making materials, educational books, groceries for cooking classes, printing materials, advertisements, travel fees, and more! We are also raising money to go towards investing in a future wellness center and herbal medicinal garden for the the healing of our community!
